Participating as an instructor in the gardening class at the Eagles Adult Enrichment Program is an enjoyable way to obtain some of your Master Gardener required volunteer hours. The Eagles classes are sponsored by the Nacoochee United Methodist Church and are scheduled for the fall and winter.  There are a variety of interesting offerings to the community including music, poetry, language, arts, crafts and practical skill classes.  The gardening class has been conducted by the White County Extension Agent and various Master Gardeners.  It is a small class usually with about 6 to 8 participants.

Last fall, I was given the opportunity to present a class on Bulbs and Perennials and this winter I covered the topic of Growing Houseplants. The small class allows the instructor to have a relaxed give and take with the class members, enjoy a hands-on activity with the participants, and share extension publications on the subject. This time in the activity, the class discussed and looked at plants from various houseplant categories, handled different types of soil and containers, and used these to pot small plants to take home.

I really enjoyed the time I spent with the Eagles and recommend this instructional opportunity to the Master Gardeners.
