Indoor Beginner Gardening: Essential Indoor Gardening with Herbs
by Emma Hall (2023)
Now that it is winter and the weather is often cold, windy, and wet, it’s a good time to stay indoors and consider an indoor garden. One of the best choices of plants for an indoor garden is herbs. Indoor Beginner Gardening is a short book of only thirty-four pages that gives you all the essentials of indoor gardening with herbs.
In her book, Emma Hall covers everything from how to plan and build an indoor herb garden to the types of herbs that grow best indoors. She also has tips about how best to harvest and dry those herbs.
The first chapter outlines the benefits of indoor gardening. Some benefits listed include improvement in air quality, reduction of noise pollution, and improvement in mental health.
The next chapter focuses on the types of herbs to grow. Eighteen possible types of herbs are suggested for growing indoors, and the author explains why these herbs are good choices.
Hall lays out considerations for creating your indoor garden. These considerations include light, temperature, humidity, airflow, location, and indoor garden style. Plant selection considerations include the compatibility of certain herbs, potting soil, and the varying types of visual appeal.
The last two chapters give additional tips for growing, along with methods for harvesting and drying herbs for food.
Despite its short length, this book is very comprehensive. It is an excellent guide for establishing an indoor herb garden. Now would be a great time to set up your own herb garden inside your warm home.
