Victory Home Greenhouse

Victory Home Greenhouse is a long-standing partnership between HMGA and Victory Home, a residential rehabilitation center in Tallulah Falls for men battling alcohol addiction.

Since 2019, Master Gardeners have renovated and actively raise a huge variety of plants in a central greenhouse on the property, involving residents in this project as a unique form of horticultural therapy. Plants cultivated in the greenhouse are sold to the public at an annual Spring Plant Sale every May. This year’s sale will occur May 7-10, 2025.

Weekly workdays leading up to the plant sale see the greenhouse come alive in a flurry of activity with Master Gardeners working alongside residents to divide, prune, pot, propagate, water and nurture thousands of ornamental plants, native plants, small trees, shrubs, groundcovers, herbs and succulents. Proceeds from the sale are shared by both HMGA and Victory Home.

Plants grown in the greenhouse also are used in a variety of community river shoreline and habitat enhancement projects, in partnership with UGA Extension in Habersham County.

Extension agents and HMGA also have helped secure a Hoop House adjacent to the original greenhouse, where vegetables are grown and used in meals for the residents — providing a healthy boost to their diets.

Materials for the Hoop House, potting mix, fans and other accessories have been donated by community individuals and organizations.
